Welcome to BAM! BAM stands for Build A Metagame. This project aims to create several (about 60) fakemons, such that they will battle only against eachother, on a Pokémon simulator.
You will need either good artistic skills, or a good amount of experience in competitive Pokémon to have a meaningful impact in the creative process, but even if you're lacking in these you're welcome to take part, just be aware that this project is very much competitively focussed, so only the best ideas will make it through.
For artists:
If you're interested in creating sprites (front and/or back), or concept artwork, then you should get involved with us! Whilst we reserve the choice to be selective in what artwork we use, we're nevertheless very welcoming and desire high quality artwork for our project.
For those with an eye on the competitive side:
This project has been around for a long time (but the forums were completely cleaned and everything removed), and so we have some experience already with the pitfalls of projects like this. The way the project will work is this:
Firstly, the set of moves and items will be decided upon. These heavily define the game's balance, pace, and competitiveness, and so it's VITAL that these are decided upon beforehand. As creator, I am going to have a large say in this but you are more than welcomed to argue your points of view. Once these sets are decided upon, new moves and items can be made but are not the main focus. If someone has an interesting item idea - or one that is involved in a Pokémon concept - then it can be duly discussed and then added, but these are not to be the primary focus once items and moves are decided on. Similarly is the case with moves, however the idea that a specific move will be intimately related with a Pokémon is much more realistic, so there is some focus remaining on creating new moves, but it should again not be in the forefront of your mind when discussing and creating concepts. On this note, we will sometimes use pre-created moves and items (such as Earthquake and Leftovers). We can rename and re-design these, but it's very low priority so I'd say it's welcome not to invest time into these unless you have a particularly good idea pertaining to them.
Next, when it comes to creating Pokémon, with any Pokémon, the first thing to happen would be to post a concept, whatever that may be, and then we can talk about it and see how it evolves. We don't even need to begin with a specific concept, we could for example think about what things we want in terms of amount of Pokémon in a certain type, what roles they should have, how much we should have single-typed Pokémon, etc. So, all in all, feel free to talk about whatever you like, for now. If the time comes a more focussed direction could emerge. Users who argue their points well, etc. and are viewed as responsible, can be added to the forum group of Pokémon designers, who will have permissions to post in the Pokémon board. Completed designs and well-formed conceptions can be posted here, and any forum member is free to comment in that forum.
Please, do not expect your concept to be added. We're very much after quality over quantity, and whilst you may be brimming with ideas, we only want to come out with the best in the end. Before a Pokémon is a guarantee'd member of the metagame, we will need a lot of depth and understanding as to how it will interact with other sorts of Pokémon, its strengths and weaknesses, and the like. This is an overview and in practice is a little more unpredictable, but it serves as a notice to not expect all your ideas to be incorporated, so please do not feel down about yourself, or get angry at us, for rejecting your idea. We will try not to be rude, but if we are, please tell us politely and we'll try and correct our wrongs and ensure it is not repeated.
Coding will only be focussed on once the project is otherwise near or at completion, since otherwise it's a distraction. Furthermore, neither coding nor artwork will receive their own board until the project has moved far along, to reduce clutter.
